CSL Lagos at Durban Film Mart
Since 2024, the Climate Story Lab Lagos as part of the Climate Story Labs Africa cohort, consisting of Climate Story Lab Lagos, Climate Story Lab ZA, Doc Society, Tunga Africa, and Sunshine Cinema, Global Impact Producers Alliance, and UCT Centre for Film and Media Studies has participated at the Durban Film Mart as a collective, driving and advancing the “Impact Media” theme through the lens of Climate Change and Social Justice.

We came back for a second edition of the Durban Film Mart, hosting 4 sessions in total;

Distribution For Impact & Income - consisting of a fireside chat and a hackathon.

The Climate Cine-bar, which is part of a series of provocations with film. We showcased narratives that connect with movements and inspire bold action that makes change possible

The Climate Story Lab Impact One-on-One session invited filmmakers and film impact teams to participate in 15 minute round-robin consultations with leading Impact producers and facilitators.

Climate Storytelling Impact Award: Climate Story Lab offered a $10,000 USD award for a film project pitched at the DFM FORUM that uses creative narrative to address climate issues. We sought out stories that illuminate the interconnectedness of all life and demonstrate how climate action can create a new era of abundance through inclusive, equitable, and resilient systems.

Climate Story Labs Africa at Durban Film Mart 24’
2024 brought the first ever climate storytelling delegation to DFM 2024 with support from Doc Society – Climate Story Unit, STEPS, Climate Story Lab South Africa and the UCT Centre for Film and Media Studies.
The 24-strong climate storytelling delegation came from 6 different countries, South Africa, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Senegal and Nigeria. They included filmmakers, broadcasters, distributors, researchers, impact producers and funders.
We hosted 5 events in total: 3 climate-focused panel discussions; an impact ‘hackathon’; a distribution mapping roundtable; and a GIPA social.
